Nel 1200 la proprietà di Ostwig fu menzionata per la prima volta in un documento della fondazione di Meschede. Il conte Ludovico di Arnsberg scambiò nel 1299 la tenuta cavalleresca di Gevelinghausen con quella di Ostwig. Nel 15° secolo la famiglia Rump la trasformò in una tenuta nobiliare. Intorno al 1500 passò però inizialmente in possesso non nobiliare. Nel 1539 Giovanni von Hanxleden da Anröchte acquisì la tenuta e vi stabilì la sua residenza. Nel 17° secolo la casa di Ostwig fu ristrutturata per diventare una residenza signorile. Nel 1699 la proprietà fu unita con la casa Borg, rispettivamente a Brockhausen. Con l'estinzione della linea di Ostwig della famiglia Hanxleben, la proprietà passò nel 1771 alla famiglia dei baroni von Lüninck. Nella casa nacquero Ferdinando barone von Lüninck e suo fratello Hermann barone von Lüninck.
