Intorno alla nascita di Cristo, i romani cercarono di conquistare la Germania. In questo periodo, legioni romane percorrevano il fiume Lippe e allestivano accampamenti militari a Holsterhausen.
Le prime tracce furono scoperte negli anni '20 e '30 del secolo scorso. Durante il più grande scavo estensivo nell'area di Kreskenhof dal 2000 al 2002, sono stati registrati circa 6000 reperti. Oggi un punto di interesse storico ricorda l'epoca romana, creato da alunni e alunne del Ginnasio Petrinum. È stato costruito sul sito di uno degli oltre dieci accampamenti romani documentati a Holsterhausen, che sono stati accertati dal 1927.
