L'Hotel Alfonso XIII fu costruito come alloggio di lusso in occasione dell'Esposizione Universale del 1929, che si svolse in parte a Barcellona e in parte a Siviglia. La costruzione durò dal 1916 al 1928. L'hotel prende il nome dal re Alfonso XIII di Spagna, che in quell'epoca aprì anche l'edificio.
L'hotel è stato progettato da José Espiau y Muñoz in stile neomudéjar . L'interno è riccamente decorato con maioliche ed elementi in ferro battuto. L'hotel dispone di 147 camere e suite, tutte uniche.
