L'hôtel Alfonso XIII a été construit comme hébergement de luxe pour l'Exposition universelle de 1929, qui s'est déroulée en partie à Barcelone et en partie à Séville. La construction a duré de 1916 à 1928. L'hôtel porte le nom du roi Alphonse XIII d'Espagne, qui a également inauguré le bâtiment à l'époque.
L'hôtel a été conçu par José Espiau y Muñoz dans un style néo-mudéjar . L'intérieur est richement décoré d'azulejos et d'éléments en fer forgé. L'hôtel dispose de 147 chambres et suites toutes uniques.
