Das Hotel Alfonso XIII wurde als Luxusunterkunft für die Weltausstellung 1929 erbaut, die teilweise in Barcelona und teilweise in Sevilla stattfand. Die Bauarbeiten dauerten von 1916 bis 1928. Das Hotel ist nach dem spanischen König Alfonso XIII benannt, der das Gebäude damals auch eröffnete.
Das Hotel wurde von José Espiau y Muñoz im Neomudejar-Stil entworfen. Der Innenraum ist reich mit Azulejos und schmiedeeisernen Elementen verziert. Das Hotel verfügt über 147 Zimmer und Suiten, die alle einzigartig sind.
