Situato a metà di una collina boscosa sul sito di un'antica postazione romana, in diretta visibilità con Vézelay, il castello feudale di Bazoches, costruito nel XII secolo, fu acquistato nel 1675 dal maresciallo di Vauban grazie a una mancia concessagli da Luigi XIV. Appena insediato, Vauban apportò numerose modifiche al castello e lo trasformò in una guarnigione militare. I suoi discendenti e gli attuali proprietari hanno conservato con cura molti ricordi del loro illustre antenato: armatura, camera da letto, studio e biblioteca
