Het feodale kasteel van Bazoches, gelegen halverwege een beboste heuvel op de plaats van een oude Romeinse post, in direct zicht met Vézelay, werd in 1675 verworven door de maarschalk van Vauban dankzij een gratificatie die hem door Lodewijk XIV werd verleend. Zodra hij geïnstalleerd was, bracht Vauban talrijke wijzigingen aan in het kasteel en veranderde het in een militair garnizoen. Zijn afstammelingen en huidige eigenaars hebben vele souvenirs van hun illustere voorvader zorgvuldig bewaard: harnas, slaapkamer, studeerkamer en bibliotheek
