Nel 1678, Luigi XIV ordinò la creazione di un ospedale generale per i poveri e gli indigenti sul sito del convento dei Carmelitani.
La cappella dell'ospedale, dedicata a San Carlo, fu ampliata e ristrutturata da Jean Giral nel 1751 e poi da Jacques Nogaret.
Ha una pianta molto particolare: i suoi due ordini di gallerie, corrispondenti ai piani dell'ospedale, permettevano ai pensionanti di assistere alle funzioni sullo stesso piano!
Classificata monumento storico nel 1947, la cappella ospita oggi le prove dei cori della città e concerti aperti al pubblico.
