Creato nel 1920, il cimitero di Pierrepont è diventato una necropoli nazionale nel 1923, quando sono state raggruppate le salme esumate da alcuni cimiteri militari della Meurthe et Moselle e della Mosa.
L'imponente lanterna dei morti, eretta in memoria degli eroi caduti nella battaglia di Pierrepont il 22 e 23 agosto 1914, fu inaugurata il 18/09/1932.
La necropoli contiene i resti di 3.758 soldati:
Guerra 14-18: 3045 francesi, 141 belgi, 2 britannici, 1 rumeno, 493 russi.
Guerra 39/45: 20 soldati francesi, 55 soldati sovietici, 1 soldato ceco.
L'area commemorativa di Pierrepont è patrimonio dell'umanità dell'UNESCO;
