Il Musée des Amis du Vieux Pays è ospitato nel castello medievale parzialmente restaurato di Dieulouard. Presenta i resti gallo-romani del sito dello Scarpone e la ricostruzione di un piccolo cimitero gallo-romano sotto le tegole.
La principale strada romana da Lione a Treviri via Metz attraversava la Mosella a Dieulouard, l'antica Scarpone. Questo insediamento sulla bassa terrazza alluvionale era diviso in isolotti collegati da ponti di pietra e di legno e nell'Alto Medioevo rimase un punto strategico per l'attraversamento della Mosella.
