Il quartiere fluviale di Vienne, ai piedi della cattedrale, è un luogo speciale. Abitato dai Ponticauds (popolo dei ponti) con una ricca storia sociale, il fiume è attraversato da due notevoli ponti medievali risalenti al XIII secolo, il ponte Saint-Etienne e il ponte Saint-Martial. Con il suo passato industriale alle spalle, la Vienne è stata riportata al suo stato naturale e lungo le sue rive sono state tracciate piacevoli passeggiate. Canoa, arrampicata, canottaggio, jogging, bocce, ristoranti e terrazze di caffè punteggiano le rive di questo corridoio verde, descritto con affetto dal famoso scrittore giapponese Shimazaki Tozon.
