Il signore di Mauzé "fece tagliare la terra" nel 1315 per creare un porto. Nel 1714, l'ingegnere del re Claude Masse visitò il porto di Chaban e Mauzé, che rischiava di andare in rovina. Il progetto di un canale fu esaminato nel 1808 da Napoleone I. Dal 1843 al 1945 è stato costruito il canale Mignon dalla chiusa di Bazoin al porto di Gueux (vicino a Sazay), poi prolungato dal 1880 all'83 fino a Mauzé per collegare la città al mare attraverso la Sèvre Niortaise e consentire il trasporto di merci su chiatta. Sfidato rapidamente dalla ferrovia e poi dalla strada, il più grande porto della Venise Verte fu presto abbandonato. Nel 1996 è stato riabilitato nell'ambito delle Grandi Opere del Marais Poitevin, ma rimane inaccessibile alle imbarcazioni, in quanto il canale è attualmente navigabile da Bazoin fino a poco più a monte di La Grève-s.-le-Mignon.
