I dolmen di Bois Neuf risalgono al Neolitico medio, tra il 3.500 e il 2.500 a.C.. In questo periodo il Limousin fu interessato dall'espansione della società Chassea. Questa civiltà portò le prime tracce evidenti di gerarchia sociale attraverso la costruzione di fortificazioni e monumenti funerari megalitici.
La tavola, che misura 2,9 x 2 metri, è sostenuta da sei pilastri. Questo monumento è l'unico "sopravvissuto" di un gruppo di cinque megaliti. Nelle vicinanze sono stati rinvenuti numerosi manufatti neolitici, tra cui punte di freccia, ceramiche rotte e ornamenti (perline d'osso e pietre verdi). La camera è a forma di pera e comprende due sezioni interne con una stretta apertura a sud.
