Nel settembre 1914, all'inizio della Prima Guerra Mondiale, Senlis fu colpita da misure di ritorsione tedesche dopo che la retroguardia francese aveva sparato sulle truppe di occupazione. Centodieci case in Rue de République e Rue Bellon furono distrutte, compreso il Palazzo di Giustizia e la stazione. Il sindaco della città, Eugène Odent, fu fucilato con altri cinque cittadini.
