Thornton-le-Clay è un villaggio e una parrocchia civile nel distretto di Ryedale nel North Yorkshire, Inghilterra. Si trova a circa 8 miglia a nord-est di York.
Il villaggio è menzionato nel Domesday book come Torentune nel centinaio di Bulford. Ci sono tre riferimenti in totale. Il primo come parte del maniero di Fostun; il secondo come parte del maniero di Bulmer e infine come parte del Wapentac di Bolesforde. L'etimologia del nome è in antico inglese e significa insediamento racchiuso da cespugli di rovo. Il suffisso si riferisce alla natura del suolo nell'area circostante.
