Il pozzo San Felice di Volterra è una delle strutture idrauliche più importanti della città medievale ed è costituito da una grande vasca in pietra, in parte scavata nel terreno, che è protetta da una copertura sorretta da due archi in pietra.
La struttura è addossata al pendio e le pareti posteriori e laterali sono in muratura.
Sappiamo da un'iscrizione sulla facciata che la fontana fu costruita nel 1319 sotto la direzione di Chelino Ducci Tancredi per ordine dei balitori della contrada di Santo Stefano.
La Fonte, ancora accessibile tramite l'antica pavimentazione, fu costruita sul modello della Fonte di Docciola, edificata ottant'anni prima dall'altra parte della città.
