Si trova a sud-ovest di Ee, a nord-ovest di Oudwoude, a nord di Kollumerzwaag e a sud-est di Driesum e Oostwoud. Il nucleo del villaggio si trova tra il Nieuwe Zwemmer e il Stroobossertrekvaart, a nord-est della N910. Lungo il Stroobossertrekvaart ha un porto e il villaggio offre anche alcuni campeggi. Nel 2021 Westergeest contava 610 abitanti. Il villaggio comprende le frazioni Beintemahuis, Bonte Hond, Kettingwier, Weerdeburen e Westerburen.
