Het ligt ten zuidwesten van Ee, ten noordwesten van Oudwoude, ten noorden van Kollumerzwaag en ten zuidoosten van Driesum en Oostwoud. De dorpskern ligt tussen de Nieuwe Zwemmer en de Stroobossertrekvaart, ten noordoosten van de N910.Aan de Stroobossertrekvaart kent het een haven en verder kent het dorp enkele campings. In 2021 telde Westergeest 610 inwoners. Onder het dorp vallen de buurtschappen Beintemahuis, Bonte Hond , Kettingwier, Weerdeburen en Westerburen.
