Il villaggio si trova a circa 3 chilometri a est di Wolvega e appartiene ai più grandi villaggi del comune. Nel 2021 contava 1.045 abitanti. In un documento del 1204 il nome appare per la prima volta come Holenpathe. In un documento del 1320 viene scritto "Oldeholpat". Olde- fu aggiunto nel XIV secolo dopo la fondazione del nuovo Holtpade: Nijeholtpade.
