Haanrade è una frazione che appartiene a Kerkrade e si trova a nord di questa città, vicino al Worm, che qui forma il fiume di confine con la Germania. Haanrade si trova direttamente a nordest del quartiere Kerkraadse Chevremont.
A est di Haanrade scorre il Worm, che forma il confine con la Germania. A sud si trova una montagna di carbone proveniente da una precedente miniera di carbone. A questo si collega il Berenbos, un'area naturale di 24 ettari con praterie secche, boschi decidui e conifere. In quest'area si trovano piante che amano il calcare, come il cardo secco. A nord di Haanrade si trova l'area naturale Carisborg, anch'essa di 24 ettari. Questa è la ex miniera di lignite Anna che è stata successivamente piantumata e ora consiste in un'alternanza di bosco deciduo e prati. Qui si trova anche una fattoria didattica.
