Origine
Sulla Boomdijk a Halsteren si trovano quattro rifugi in cemento risalenti alla prima guerra mondiale. Facevano parte del punto di supporto per l'infanteria lungo la strada per Tholen e costituivano parte della Linea di difesa dell'Ovest del Brabante Settentrionale. Questa linea fu istituita durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale per difendere la neutralità olandese in caso di un'invasione francese/britannica in Zelanda. Secondo lo stato maggiore olandese, il Brabante Wal offriva buone possibilità di respingere un'invasione.
Spostamento
All'inizio del 2014, due dei rifugi sono stati spostati ai margini della strada per rimuovere i disagi che i proprietari terrieri incontravano durante il loro lavoro.
