Il centro di Hilvarenbeek è costituito dal Vrijthof. Un vrijthof è un luogo recintato, un cortile della chiesa o un giardino recintato (in olandese medievale ‘vrithof’). Attorno al Vrijthof di Hilvarenbeek e nelle strade che vi conducono si trovano edifici notevoli, tra cui la chiesa di Sint-Petrus'-Banden, una chiesa gotica del XIV e XV secolo.
Nel Vrijthof si trovano anche due tigli. La Gebodenlinde è un albero di tiglio piantato nel 1676 o poco prima e ha la forma di un tiglio a diversi piani. L'albero prende il suo nome perché il Signore di Hilvarenbeek vi annunciava i suoi ordini. Tradizionalmente, nel Vrijthof veniva piantato anche un tiglio più giovane che doveva, a suo tempo, sostituire il vecchio albero. L'attuale giovane tiglio è stato piantato nel 1923.
