Birkhoven è un bosco parco e un ex possedimento a ovest di Amersfoort. Si trova al margine della Utrechtse Heuvelrug. L'area ha una superficie di circa 60 ha. A ovest confina con l'area naturale del Monnikenbos. A sud il confine è formato dalla linea ferroviaria Amersfoort-Utrecht. A nord l'antica strada tra Soest e Amersfoort costituisce il confine. A est è delimitato dalla Barchman Wuijtierslaan e dall'area naturale dei Bokkeduinen. Lo Zoo di Amersfoort si trova nel bosco di Birkhoven.
