La costruzione dell'attuale chiesa di Bonifacio è iniziata nel 1404. La chiesa e la torre furono completate nel corso del XV secolo.
Nel XVI secolo la chiesa bruciò due volte, mentre la torre rimase intatta in entrambe le occasioni. La chiesa ricostruita nel 1555 è fondamentalmente quella che vediamo oggi. È una chiesa a navata gotica tardiva con due ampie navate e una navata laterale meridionale più stretta che si trovano sotto un unico tetto con la navata centrale.
L'inclinazione della torre è probabilmente causata dal drenaggio del Wieringermeer, che ha modificato il livello della falda freatica. In ogni caso, è certo che negli ultimi 30 anni la torre è inclinata di 3 mm all'anno in direzione nord-est.
