La Sierra Nevada è una catena montuosa che si estende nello stato della California, nella parte ad est, e in quello del Nevada, nella parte occidentale.
I primi abitanti identificati della Sierra Nevada erano tribù Paiute sul versante est e tribù Mono e Miwok sul versante ovest. Oggi, sul Duck Pass s'incontrano frequentemente resti di punte di freccia in ossidiana di quell'epoca.
