Het Fort van Eben-Emael werd gebouwd tussen de Eerste en de Tweede Wereldoorlog en werd beschouwd als het sterkste fort ter wereld. De Duitse aanvallers slaagden er echter in om in WO II het fort in recordtijd van een kwartier het fort uit te schakelen en na een anderhalve dag belegering moest het fort capituleren.
Het Fort van Eben-Emael werd als decor gebruikt in de TV serie "De Smaak van de Keyser". Alfred en George komen hier in 1939 na hun mobilisatie tot de Duitsers het fort innemen.
