Het beeld van The Brooding Soldier (de tobbende soldaat) of in de volksmond Den Canadien, staat op een plek die in de oorlog Vancouver Corner werd genoemd. Hier vocht het Canadese leger onder andere om terrein terug te nemen na de eerste gasaanval op 22 april 1915. Het beeld werd in 1922 ingehuldigd en is van Frederick Chapman Clemeshaw. De soldaat rust zijn handen op de kolf van het geweer dat met de loop naar onder staat: “arms reversed”. Het is al minstens sinds de 16de eeuw een houding die respect en rouw voor de gevallenen moet oproepen.
