Dit museum herbergt tientallen werken van een van de meest vooraanstaande Vlaamse expressionistische kunstenaars. De collectie overspant de periode 1915 - 1943. Uit de Smets Deurlese periode zijn 34 werken tentoongesteld, waaronder Het dorpszonnetje uit 1928. Het Museum Gust De Smet is een legaat van de weduwe van de schilder aan de gemeente Deurle. Het is de woning en het atelier van de kunstenaar, waar hij van 1935 tot 1943 leefde en werkte.
