Hier in het centrum van Nokere werd in 1634 Clara De Vos, of de Heks van Nokere, op de brandstapel eerst gewurgd en dan verbrand voor hekserij. Ze werd beschuldigd koeien te hebben betoverd. Ze zou ook een driejarig kind de dood ingejaagd hebben. Ze zou het kind een appel gegeven te hebben met een poeder van den duivel. Duidelijk werd hier de inspiratie gehaald uit het sprookje van Sneeuwwitje.
