Hier im Zentrum von Nokere wurde 1634 Clara De Vos, oder die Hexe von Nokere, zuerst erdrosselt und dann für Hexerei verbrannt. Sie wurde beschuldigt, Kühe verzaubert zu haben. Man sagte, sie habe auch einem dreijährigen Kind den Tod ins Gesicht gejagt. Sie soll dem Kind einen Apfel gegeben haben, der mit einem Pulver vom Teufel versehen war. Offensichtlich wurde hier die Inspiration aus dem Märchen von Schneewittchen geschöpft.
