Zandvoorde is een dorp in de Belgische provincie West-Vlaanderen. Het was een zelfstandige gemeente tot het op 1 januari 1971 fuseerde met Oostende. Het dorp ligt in De Polders ruim drie kilometer ten zuidoosten van het Oostendse stadscentrum.De naam Zandvoorde is samengesteld uit oude termen “sand” en “furdu” wat betekent een zanderige, doorwaadbare plaats, een voorde.In de middeleeuwen waren er nog weinig spellingsregels, daarom komen in oude documenten allerlei schrijfwijzen van de plaatsnaam voor:
