Dit monument ter ere van generaal Georges Smith Patton (1885-1945) werd in 1957 ingewijd op de plek waar hij zijn soldaten zou hebben gemotiveerd die zich in december 1944 naar Bastogne dirigeerden tijdens de tegenaanval in de Ardennen.
Hij overleed aan de gevolgen van een verkeersongeluk in Heidelberg (Duitsland) op 21 december 1945. Hij is begraven op de begraafplaats van Hamm (Groot-Hertogdom Luxemburg) tussen de mannen van het 3e Leger.
