Het Vlaams Natuurreservaat 'De Zwinduinen en -polders' kent een waaier aan kustbiotopen. Langs de zeezijde vind je zeereepduinen, meer landinwaarts gaan de duinen over in struweel en duingrasland en tref je een aangeplant bos met loof- en naaldhout. Het zuidelijke deel van het reservaat is een voormalige strandvlakte die nu bestaat uit weiden. Van hieruit heb je uitzicht op al deze verschillende kustbiotopen.
Door overgangen in onder meer de bodem (van zand naar klei) en het grondwater (van zout naar zoet), kent dit natuurgebied een uiterst zeldzame flora en fauna en is daardoor uniek in Vlaanderen!
