Deze kerk wordt beschouwd als de belangrijkste Jezuïetenkerk (1650-1666) van België. Ze is bekend dankzij de Antwerpse jezuïet Guillaume Hesius. Het gebouw is compleet gerestaureerd. Alleen de gevel ontsnapte in 1944 aan de bombardementen van WOII.
De sierlijke barokgevel wordt omschreven als ‘het altaar buiten de kerk’ en behoort tot de Zeven Wonderen van Leuven.
Binnen overheersen de gebeeldhouwde ornamenten de hele ruimte. Het geheel van houten beeldhouwwerken is opvallend; waaronder de acht biechtstoelen, met elkaar verbonden door een hoge eikenhouten lambrisering. De preekstoel in Lodewijk XV-stijl is afkomstig uit de Sint-Michielskathedraal in Brussel.
Het altaar wordt versierd met het schilderij "De Verschijning van de Heilige Maagd aan Thomas Aquino".
De kerk is nu in gebruik voor Spaanstalige diensten en is een decor voor kunstinitiatieven.
