Het Hageland onderscheidt zich van andere streken door zijn Diestiaan- of getuigenheuvels. Deze heuvels zijn de zandbanken die achterbleven toen de Diestiaanzee zich terugtrok, zo'n 7 miljoen jaren geleden. Zodra de zandbank in contact kwam met de lucht, oxideerde het ijzer en klitte het zand samen tot een harde, roestbruine ijzerzandsteen.
Hier tref je aan de rand van de vallei verschillende van deze getuigenheuvels aan. De heuvel hier is omgeven door dennen van de Molenberg. Verder op de wandeling passeer je nog de Hooilandse berg.
