De textielfabriek
Fabrique de Tissus Loth (Spinnerij weverij Scheppers, opgericht in 1842) bracht een
inwijking van arbeiders uit het Waasland die zich vestigden in de Carré Breedveld*¹, met zich
mee. Textiel was in Midden-Afrika het product bij uitstek dat werd gebruikt als ruilmiddel
voor inlandse producten.
