Op de schuur van de Molensteen staat het jaartal 1857. Het is in dat jaar dat in Gent de eerste vakbond in België, de Broederlijke Maatschappij der Wevers wordt opgericht. En het is ook het jaar dat Fransman Jean-François Millet zijn beroemde Arenleessters (Des glaneuses) en het Algelus maakte. Het zou een beeld uit de toenmalige omgeving van deze schuur kunnen geweest zijn. Bij de eerste tentoonstelling kreeg deze realistische voorstelling van drie arme boerenvrouwen veel kritiek te verduren en vond men het té revolutionair en een verheerlijking van het socialisme.
