Zwembad Den Bessem had 45 jaar op de teller staan toen het eind 2015 de deuren sloot.
Om de nood aan zwemwater in de Zuidrand aan te pakken, bundelden Borsbeek, Edegem en Hove de krachten met stad Mortsel en bouwden in 2018 een nieuw zwembad.
Met een helling en verstelbare bodem blinkt het zwembad uit in toegankelijkheid, zelfs bedlegerige mensen kunnen van het zwembad genieten. Het 25-meterbad is ideaal voor toekomstige zwemmers, scholen en clubs, er is eveneens een instructiebad.
Dit zwembad wil ook een voortrekker zijn op ecologisch vlak. De emissie zal beperkt worden door te streven naar een K-peil tussen 10 en 20 en een hergebruik van water tot 70%.
