Het Pompstation is gelegen aan de dijk van de Vliet en bevindt zich langs de linkerzijde van het Natuurreservaat 'Noordelijk Eiland', gekend omwille van de grote vogelrijkdom. Sinds 1976 wordt het water van de Vliet verzameld in een vergaarbekken en via een pompgemaal in het veel hoger gelegen kanaalwater gepompt om overstromingen, zoals die van Ruisbroek in 1976, te vermijden.
