Je staat hier aan de uitgestrekte plassen van de Hamputten, een deelgebied van natuurreservaat Groot Molsbroek. Dit reservaat wordt beheerd door natuurvereniging vzw Durme. Tijdens langere vriesperiodes blijft het open, diepe water van de Hamputten lang onbevroren. Hierdoor is het de ideale overwinteringsplek voor heel wat watervogels en duikeenden, waaronder de kuifeend. Ook de rijkelijk begroeide boorden met riet en wilg hebben jaarrond (maar vooral in het broedseizoen) een hoge natuurwaarde.
