De bezette gemeenten kregen te lijden onder geallieerde bombardementen. De geallieerden wilden de Duitse infrastructuur treffen maar raakten ook de burgerbevolking. Op 6 september 1915 werd Lichtervelde opgeschrikt door een reeks ontploffingen. Er waren vele vernielingen, onder andere in de Beverenstraat, en meerdere inwoners lieten het leven.
