Van de nood een deugd maken, dat deed men met de aanleg van de fietsbrug aan de IJzerlaan. Om transport van schepen met meer containers over het Albertkanaal mogelijk te maken, moest de vroegere IJzerlaanbrug verdwijnen. De brug was immers te laag.
Op ongeveer dezelfde plek verscheen in 2017 een state-of-the-art fiets- en wandelbrug. Een dubbelgeplooide fietshelling brengt je op de bijna 100 meter lange brug. Krijg je al dorst van de gedachte dat je die helling op moet? Bestel dan eerst een drankje in café Welkom aan het Noordschippersdok.
