Het station lag op de route van eerste Belgische stoomtrein die Brussel met Mechelen verbond op 5 mei 1835. Daarmee is het één van de oudste treinstations op het Europese vasteland en van België.
Vandaag de dag is de spoorlijn tussen Brussel en Antwerpen één de drukste lijnen van ons land.
Aan de ingang (kant Rubenslaan) bevindt zich een ruime en gratis parking voor wagens en fietsen. Het centrum van Eppegem bevindt zich op wandelafstand (ongeveer 500 m).
