De 31 meter hoge uitkijktoren is een replica van de boortoren waarmee André Dumont in 1901 de eerste steenkool uit de grond haalde. De uitkijktoren is vrij toegankelijk tot een hoogte van 25 meter. Eenmaal de top bereikt, kan je de horizon afspeuren naar de terrils van Eisden, Winterslag en Waterschei en heb je een mooi uitzicht over het Nationaal Park Hoge Kempen.
Honderdduizenden jaren geleden lag de Maas iets westelijker en kwam hij tot waar deze toren staat.
