Op dit deel van het pad lijkt het dat men het pad geplaveid heeft. Maar het zijn de zandsteenbanken die aan het oppervlak hier komen. De weg snijdt zich letterlijk in die zandsteenbanken in, maar omdat die behoorlijk resistent zijn vormen ze kleine trapjes. Die zandstaanbanken zijn een een lokale natuursteen die zich vormt in de zandlagen van het Busseliaans zand of Formation de Bruxelles. Die zandlaag werd hier afgezet in een ondiep zee in het tertiair.
