De Okervallei begint heel toepasselijk in Oker, een kleine industriestad ten oosten van Goslar, en ze loopt langs Romkerhall naar het Okerstuwmeer. De 260 m lange stuwdam werd in de jaren vijftig gebouwd ter preventie van overstromingen en voor de energieproductie. Unter- en Mittelschulenberg verdwenen toen voorgoed onder het wateroppervlak. De legende wil dat je in het stuwmeer soms een kerktoren kunt onderscheiden, dat je klokkengelui kunt horen... Schulenberg zelf werd volledig heropgebouwd.
