Het kasteel Falkenstein, dat eerder ook wel kasteel Nieuw Falkenstein werd genoemd, is een hoogmiddeleeuwse hoogteburcht in het Harz. Het behoort tot de gemeente Falkenstein/Harz in de Saksen-Anhaltse Landkreis Harz. Het werd gebouwd tussen 1120 en 1180. Het kasteel wordt beheerd door de Cultuurstichting Saksen-Anhalt als eigenaar.
Het kasteel Falkenstein ligt in het laag Harz in het natuurpark Harz. Het bevindt zich tussen Mägdesprung en Meisdorf op een rotsrug, ten zuiden en boven de in het dal van de Selke gelegen Thalmühle. In een bosrijke omgeving is het omgeven door het natuurreservaat Selketal, ongeveer 1,3 km westnoordwestelijk van het tussen de dorpen Meisdorf en Pansfelde aan de staatsweg 230 gelegen Falkensteiner Weilers Gartenhaus.
