De watermolen aan de Nederlandse grens werd voor het eerst genoemd in een oorkonde uit 1331. Het was aantoonbaar in bisschoppelijk bezit in 1350. Het gebouw, gelegen aan de Alstätter Aa, werd gebouwd in 1619. Een renovatie door Peter Pictorius de Jongere wordt gedocumenteerd door een inscriptie op het wapen van prins-bisschop Clemens August.
Het vakwerkhuis met bakstenen vulling staat op een massieve stenen sokkel. De ankerbalkconstructie is uitgevoerd met gekrulde knoppen.
