Kasteel Allner ligt in de Hennefer wijk Allner aan de zuidhelling van de Nutscheid en boven de oever van de Sieg.
In 1420 wordt de in bezit van de edelman Arnold van Merkelsbach, leengezant van het stift Vilich en vanaf 1421 ambtenaar van het Bergische ambt Blankenberg, bevindende waterburcht voor het eerst documentair vermeld; hij noemt zich hierin voor het eerst met de naamtoevoeging "genaamd van Allner".
