Het Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium betrok in 1954 de eerste delen van het gebouw aan de Struckholt. De naamgeving, geïnitieerd door de schooldirectrice Erna Stahl, vond plaats op 8 februari 1958. Op 3 oktober 1959 bezocht Albert Schweitzer de school en hield een toespraak.
In 2010 won de toenmalige 7b de quizshow "De beste klas van Duitsland". In 2002 namen Die Ärzte een week lang op aan het ASG voor de CD en DVD Rock 'n' Roll Realschule. Leerlingen van het ASG vormden onder leiding van Jochen Arp het orkest en het achtergrondkoor.
